It's official: I am a coffee snob. The label materialized this morning when I ground my Vienna-roasted Capanna beans and attempted to make a strong cup of joe for myself and for a chocolate mocha cake using my undistinguished Braun coffee maker, the one we received as a wedding gift five-and-a-half years ago.My French press has been glass carafe-less for a few days after it fell prey to a pair of busy little hands, and the coffee has been awful since. h is enough--I'm buying a replacement glass carafe online, and I don't care if I'm eligible for free super saver shipping from Amazon. Actually, I better make sure there's nothing else for $8.06+ we need first. [sigh] Can't quite take the Dutch out of this woman.
So which is more Dutch, needing a supremely good cup of coffee or being a thrifty handler of money? In my observation, coffee might actually win out... at least with the enlightened.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how the taste is affected (only Chris uses the french press...too strong for even this coffee snob!), but we bought 2 replacement carafes before buying a stainless steel french press. Maybe the holding of heat would make up for any taste alterations???
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I come by both pretty honestly, but I guess the need for a good cup of coffee won out since I bought a replacement carafe for my French press. I did, however, buy a couple children's books on my list to get the super saver shipping:)

ReplyDeleteMy brother-in-law is now a barista in Princeton, NJ at the independent coffeehouse there. They've been keeping us steadily supplied with quality beans.
Starbuck's French Press, kind of pricey up front, but cheaper than multiple carafe purchases :)
